Down with a bad case of the sick.
Spending my night drinking wine I’ve mixed with vitamin C, and watching American Werewolf in London with actor commentary. This is how I make myself feel better.

Everyone's afraid to use the "R" word.
I cannot stop thinking about the new legislature passed in Virginia this week. I brought the issue up to a well meaning friend who said, “what does it matter? Aren’t the abortions they’re trying to get invasive too?” I was dumbstruck. I had no idea how to respond, and my loss of words caused a shift in the conversation. This stuck with me, and I sat and stewed for days....

All I got for Valentine's Day were two holes in my...
They decided to do the extraction with local anesthetic instead of putting me under. The x-rays implied that it would be a simple procedure, with both teeth having only one root and growing upwards out of the gums. I totally understand why they used local. Unfortunately, the x-rays were hiding something sinister. The tooth on my left side had not one root, like a normal wisdom tooth, but three....

I have a feeling I will have this conversation...
Student 1: Will you add me on Facebook?
Me: Ha! No way.
Student 1: Why not?
Me: It's inappropriate, and creepy on my part. Plus, aren't you 12?
Student 1: Yeah. So what?
Me: Well, Facebook terms and conditions say that you have to be 13 to join. You're not even legally old enough to be on Facebook.
Student 2: Pfft, we've had Facebooks since we were in the 5th grade.
Me: Looks like we've got a bunch of rebels.

Spanish Language Music
Can anyone tell me of some cool yet school appropriate Spanish language music to add to my class playlist? I know at least one kid felt left out, and that is not cool with me.

Dear teenage internet strangers that follow my...
I know there are quite a few of you. I love you guys and everything, but I’m under the impression that you should really think I’m lame. I mean, seriously, how does it make you feel that you’ve been tricked into thinking a high school teacher is rad? Or do you watch me for the same sick pity that makes Hoarders and Intervention hit shows?

Jameson Whiskey Advertisements are the Best
It all started with a giant Octopus, a color elevated mood that wets any Portlander’s panties whistle,* and the best era of clothing (if you ignore the health risks of whale bone corsets.) Just watching this ad within 50 miles of the greater Portland area makes me want to get a sprawling Kraken chest piece. I’m not sure which order the rest of these premiered, so I’m going to...

I hate hate hate microteaching.
Microteaching = when we teach a lesson we created in front of our peers, pretending that they’re our students. I always feel so prepared and then it hits me. Again I talked down to my “students.” It’s weird, because I can feel myself doing it, but I can’t seem to stop it. I feel so uncomfortable and disjointed while I’m in front of my peers..  I am really glad that I never ever ever...
