The Two Most Common Questions Asked By My Students

How old are you?

I get asked this question every single day of my student teaching. I usually ask them to guess my age, which gets mixed results. I’ve had guesses anywhere between 17 and 50. I suppose that’s accurate, I am between those ages.

“You don’t look 24,” at least two high schoolers have said to me. “You look more like 22.” This is one of the most puzzling reoccurring student statements, ever.

Are you married/do you have a boyfriend?

The answer to this usually garners sad looks. Don’t worry, they say in a condescending manner. You’ll find someone, someday. Thanks 12 year old. I was worried about that.
